Welcome back to this blog after a month of fasting. During a month break from updating this blog as well as trying new place, I've been gathering data on new eateries popping out. One of them is Huckleberry which i've discovered while reading a newspaper. This place received quite a review therefore is a must visit for me.
Upon arriving, there was quite a queue waiting for seating. Similar to Red Bean Bag which queue is quite a norm. While waiting for a table which managed by the friendly staff, we browsed the menu. The choice of food have similarities with Red Bean Bag. I guess Malaysia cafe culture mostly like that lah.
The menu
Upon entering the cafe, you will be greeted by the sweet smell of baked bread & pastries. This cafe is a mix of bakery & restaurant, similar to Frisky Goat with freshly baked bread & pastries ready for take away or eat in.
The breads & cakes selection
We did take away some of the breads but that will come later. First of, the food from the kitchen! We ordered Shakshuka, Banana French toast, Chilli Cheese Toast with fried egg & off the menu Seabass fillet Burger.
First off, Shakshuka. This dish, if i'm not mistaken is hailed from morocco. Usually, it's made of baked eggs in tomato stew. But here in Huckleberry, they cook the stew then put a poached egg on top of it with portion of rocket salad, feta cheese, served with 2 slices of homemade bread. The stew is made of tomato & roasted red pepper. It wasn't watery & the flavor compliments well with each other especially the tomatoes & peppers.

On the menu, Chilli cheese toast is a recommended to try dish. It was made up of a slice of toast, with a spread mixture of cheese & homemade sambal then topped with fried egg. No worries here as it wasn't even spicy. The homemade sambal was decent. Lack a bit of kick of spiciness as i was expecting it to be. Toast was soft with egg lightly fried to maintain the yolk softness.

We actually were going to order their Old fashion burger until we saw the seabass fillet burger just right behind the counter. The burger was made up of brioche-texture-like bun, homemade tartar sauce, salads & a generous cut of crusted fried seabass fillet. It was worth the money on this one. Bun was soft. Seabass was nicely done with crispy breaded. The tartar sauce to me was the game changer. Goes well with the fillet with its tangy taste.

Lastly, to cap off our brunch, we just couldn't resist the sight of french toast. A huge portion of brioche breads, drizzled with caramelized sugar syrup with walnuts & banana slices. It was light yet fulfilling. Wasn't too sweet either. Sedap lah orang cakap. The breads just soaked the syrup to makes it moist. Dusted with powder sugar.

Overall the food here are well prepared by the chef. Looking forward to try their pasta, sandwich & soup.
