Rakshee at Kota Damansara

Hi folks.

My recent posts mostly covered on western food so this time i post a more to the east kind of food. Truth be told, i never heard about Rakshee until my friend told me about it, months ago. Upon checking with search engine, it revealed that this place is quite promising. Hence, a first visit is a must.

Located at the Strand, nearby the shopping complex, patrons don't have to worry about parking as plenty of them here on a less busy street of Kota Damansara. Here in Rakshee, like the previously infamous boat noodles kind of service, noodles in small bowl, they served Bakso, an indonesian version of meatballs, normally eaten with noodles with beef broth. Unlike most boat noodles, Rakshee diverse a bit by manipulating their homemade bakso into other dishes as well. Yes folks, dishes like pasta and even mini burgers. The restaurant resembles your typical modern coffeehouse.

Even during late lunch, this place quite packed.

Their menu consisted of quite handful of selection. So no worries for non noodles lover.

The menu

We were tempted to try them all but my belly can only fill a little so we had Rakshee signature Bakso Soup, Baked Pasta Marinara & Baked Beefball Marinara. The experience i had at boat noodle was a bit let down but here, Bakso Soup was nice. Thick flavored beef broth with kinda like glass noodles with homemade bakso. Same trick as boat noodle, you need to order more than 2 bowl to make yourself full. To add more spiciness, try adding the house green chili sauce. Not only it will enhance the heat but also the flavor.

Bakso Soup

Their baked Pasta Marinara was nice as well. The sauce a bit sweet though yet thick. Loads with melted cheese on top. As usual, magic happens when you add the green chili sauce.

Baked Pasta Marinara

Similar to Baked Pasta Marinara, their baked beefball marinara used the same sauce with homemade Bakso. Served with toasted bread.

Baked Beefball Marinara

And here it is, the green chili sauce that makes the difference. Adding it to your dish will enhance the dish quite nicely. At least to me.

People's review says it all. This place really served good food for people who crave for something new.

Pasta Cart at Nasi Lemak Cinta Sayang Signature Park

Hi Folks.

Recently a friend of mine, Aliffa together with Aboi & Subhan opened a small F&B business called Pasta Cart. Previously Aliffa run his family business restaurant called Sambal Hijau in Kota Damansara. The main branch is in Kampung Sungai Penchala. They serve good choice of dishes during lunch time & decent Nasi Pakapao & Tomyam in the evening. Anyway, my friend decided to stand on his own & went on to open Pasta Cart. They operated their business at Nasi Lemak Cinta Sayang Kota Damansara branch at Signature Park, a few minutes away from Cova square. It took awhile but finally i managed to eat at Pasta Cart after a futsal game.

Currently on their menu, they offered Spaghetti Aglio Olio, Carbonara & Bolognese. Sides only Mushroom Soup. You have the option to add on as well.

The Menu

The Add-on menu

According to them, their signature is Carbonara but since it was supper time, I decided to go for less heavy meal so i ordered Aglio Olio with pepperoni add on as per suggestion from them. The portion was decent. Enough for me. The taste of garlic was pleasant which was good. Onions added some sweetness to the dish. The pepperoni added extra seasoning to the meal but the dish will do just fine without it.

Pasta Aglio Olio with pepperoni (RM 8)

Pricewise the meal here is quite cheap on the same level as La Famiglia & Little Fat Duck. Overall it was decent & cheap as well for pasta meal. Next will be their carbonara. Next visit is imminent.

Bmon Cafe at Kota Damansara

Hiya Folks,

Ever since the launch of Encorp the Strand, Kota Damansara least famous shop district started to welcome few more exciting new cafes. One of them is Bmon Cafe. A friend of mine recommended the waffles here since i'm a waffle freak (hell yeah!). Since my mom had some free time in the morning, I drove her to the cafe. This cafe is located upstairs on a less busy street than some other cafes in kota damansara so parking won't be a problem during weekend.

On our way climbing the stairs, we were greeted by a hand drawn comic strip on the wall. Some of the scene will surely entertain you on way up. Remember to watch your step while reading it.

Comic strip on the wall

The interior certainly felt like home. The menu offers simple dish like sandwich, pasta & waffles. They had unique choice of coffee & tea as well. Does egg yolk latte bring out the curiosity in you? I dare you! After browsing the menu, mom went for their All day breakfast & i ordered their banana waffles. They had quite a few cakes as well but mostly was mille-crepes. As for drinks, we ordered Cafe coconut latte & caramel coconut milk.

First of all, we started with our drinks. I'm not a coffee drinker but my mom is. Her Cafe Coconut latte was enough to satisfy her coffee crave. The latte was light & creamy thanks to the coconut milk. As for the Caramel Coconut milk, it was very good. Creamy yet with a nice taste of caramel inside. Perfect way to start your day.

Cafe Coconut Latte (RM 12)

Caramel Coconut Milk (RM 11....nice cup)

First, the All day breakfast. A compilation of scramble eggs, baked beans, jumbo chicken sausage, sauteed mushroom, choice of turkey ham or beef bacon, slice of toasted bread, salad & hashbrown. It was Oklah. A big portion as well. Good for sharing.

All Day Breakfast (RM 16.90)

The Banana waffles was amazingly good. Soft, crunchy with banana & walnut bits mixed inside the waffles. The waffle was baked to perfection. Accompanied by slices of banana drenched with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream & 2 sticks of banana rocky. Recommended!

Banana Waffles (RM 15.90)

Their good waffles will indeed make me wanna come for 2nd visit. There are savory waffles as well for those who like savory stuff. Price quite fair as well.

Ichiban Boshi at Sunway Giza

I never write about Japanese food before even though I frequently eat at Japanese restaurants. Never thought about it before probably because i was hungry. lol. Anyway, today I'm going to share my recent japanese cuisine experience here.

Nowadays, there are a lot of japanese eateries out there be in Selangor/KL or other states. It is getting more & more popular thanks to the growing F&B business here in Malaysia plus the influence of anime culture. Hey, i gotta admit, i learned to eat Ramen because of Naruto, pastries because of Yakitate, Japan! & food because of Cooking Master. My first japanese cuisine experience wasn't that nice. I drank a cup of ketchup thinking it was a coffee. I even cooked the sashimi on a hot plate. But now, I'm a fan of salmon sushi.

I was in Kota Damansara yesterday for futsal game & have plenty of time before the game so i decided to have a dinner. Since last week my diet have been only chicken & beef so i decided to get some fish for balance. There are plenty of japanese restaurant here so i decided to go for Ichiban Boshi.

The menu divided into 3; 1 for ala carte food, 1 for sushi/sashimi & 1 for drinks. I decided to go for lighter choice so sushi it is.

The menus

I ordered Salmon Yukke (Fresh salmon, rice roll with cucumber, omelette, mayonnaise, japanese hot sauce & topped with slice of avocado). The salmon was good & goes well with other element. Not spicy though. Perhaps the explosive wasabi way hotter than the sauce.

Salmon Yukke Roll (RM 17.90)

Then i snatched 3 more plate of salmon sushi from the sushi belt. The 1st one was Aburi Salmon (Seared salmon belly). It was nice with lightly seared salmon. The meat was fatty.

Aburi Salmon (RM 3.99)

Next was Salmon Mentaiyaki (Aburi Salmon with Salmon roe & hot mayonnaise). Compared to the one i had at sushi zanmai, it wasn't too far left behind. Lightly seared with additional taste of mayonnaise & roe.

Salmon Mentaiyaki (RM 3.99)

Lastly it was Double Salmon (Lightly seared salmon roll topped with salmon roe with salmon mayo). It was mouthful. This time around they used just normal seared salmon but thick cut instead of seared salmon belly. The salmon mayo provided some edge for this sushi.

Double Salmon (RM 5.99)

Overall it was good meal. I will pay a visit again to try other dish like bento & ramen. Each restaurant have their own signature dish. Surely there are a lot to try out there.

3 Bags Full at Kota Damansara

I first came to know Kota Damansara because of my good friend, Reza is living there & i play futsal there every week when I'm around. But, that's not only what Kota Damansara nowadays have to offer. A lot of exciting restaurants & cafes ranging from mamak to coffee place waiting for hungry people like me.

I heard about 3 bags full from internet source & it served waffles! Oh, i just love waffles same as much i love pancakes. So, with my mom & sister, we went to this place. Mind you, it's pretty hectic nowadays in this area. Parking during working hours & peak hours just hard to come by. Best bet is to park at the central park or sunway Giza as both buildings near to 3 bags full as it is located on one of the busiest street in Kota Damansara unfortunately.

Best to visit to this cafe around 11am as they started serve everything early. The foods here are quite unique with combination of nice ingredients.

The menu

They're offering food like waffles, sandwich, soup, pasta (only aglio olio) & dessert. Loads of house special to be tried here depends on your tastebuds. So we ordered Buffalo Cheese Sandwich & Norwegian Benedict from their house special, Hampshire waffle, & Sizzling Brownies. Yes, folks. You heard it right.

The Buffalo Cheese Sandwich was decent. Loaded with greenies like rocket & lettuce with drizzle of balsamic vinegar, poached egg, slice of turkey ham & a spread of blueberry mascarpone. The ingredients combined well as none of the element overpowering each other. The balsamic provide the sour element (some may not like it) & blueberry mascarpone gives the hint of sweetness.

Buffalo Cheese Sandwich (RM 23)

Next is the Norwegian Benedict. Of course, when word norway surfaced, automatically people will think of salmon. Yes, it is an Egg benedict with smoked salmon however with a twist. Instead of drizzled with normal hollandaise sauce, this dish was topped with wildberry hollandaise sauce resting on a bed of poached eggs, leafy greens, slice of turkey ham, slice of smoked salmon & charcoal muffin. Accompanied by 2 sticks of asparagus tempura as well. It was a pleasant dish with all the elements combined. I like the wildberry hollandaise sauce, very surprisingly good.

Norwegian Benedict (RM 23)

The waffle. How can we leave this place before eating the waffles. They offered 5 types of waffles & 4 of them are sweet ones. I prefer sweet waffle but i like savory one as well. We tried the hampshire waffle. The waffle topped with combination of coffee gelato, blueberry mascarpone, berry compote, granola & almond flakes. The waffle was decent. Soft, crunchy yet a bit chewy but still OK. Berry compote goes well with blueberry mascarpone. A good dish indeed.

Hampshire Waffle (RM 18)

Finally, the dessert. Last time we had a sizzling dessert it was in Swensen. This is one of the reason why we really eager to eat here. The brownies was fantastic. Soft & moist with some walnut bits then drenched with caramel sauce on a hot pan. Topped with a scoop of chocolate gelato. A must try. Save some space for it!

Sizzling Brownies (RM 17)

Here is a video for you guys. Sorry for the quality.

Overall, the food here is quite pleasing. Price wise it is the standard price for food of the same type. Definitely gonna pay a visit again.
