Red Bean Bag at Publika

Hello folks.

Nowadays, malaysian in Klang Valley have plenty of breakfast option. From traditional malaysia breakfast to western, we can find it all here. My mom & sister love to have their breakfast at a place called Red Bean Bag. It's not my first time being here but this place always popped up in my head whenever I think about having breakfast. It is currently one of the famous place to have a breakfast among foodies. Once the place is open prolly around 9.30am, it will be flocked with hungry people. Even when i arrived 30 minutes later, i had to wait for my turn for seating. This place boasted with highly trained baristas so for coffee lover, it's a must visit place.

People queuing in front of the restaurant

This place served interesting dishes for breakfast like the amazing banana bread. Almost all the menu are unique dishes made from scratch with some of the more famously familiar like egg benedict.

Two pages of menu

Our choice of breakfast are Sumo, Classic French Toast, Portobello & pancake, and brownies for dessert. First up, sumo. The dish doesn't really reflected the name. Nothing japanese about it. Ok, maybe the pan fried salmon. Comes with soft boiled egg, spinach, 2 potato rosti with a dash of hollandaise sauce. This dish share a similarity with Acme's Salmon Gravlax that i had earlier. The hollandaise sauce was really nice. The rosti however lost to Acme's but might be a winner for someone who prefer a more crunchy texture. But still a good dish for breakfast.

Sumo

My mom ordered Portobello & pancakes. Just like the name suggested, it was kinda like egg benedict but using pancake as carbs. The pancake was fluffy & moist. Goes well with other elements inside the dish. Portobello was cooked perfectly. Topped with some greens to balance the meal.

Portobello & pancake

French toast is always one of my favorite dish for breakfast. Normally i would eat it sweet but it was quite flexible as savory also just as nice. Here, they served sweet french toast. Thick toast with slices of almonds & a cube of butter. It was one of the best basic french toast. Toast was lightly done. Soft & moist. Served with honey & compilation of fruits.

French Toast

To end our meal, dessert is always the perfect way. We had reconstructed brownie served with avocado ice cream. We were curious by the ice cream actually which led us ordering this. The brownie was ok to me but the ice cream was a pure win. Each scoop rich with avocado taste like eating avocado itself. This dish reminds me of tiung mess with slices of strawberries & chunky honey comb inside.

Okonomi at Publika

Anyone here fancy for a green tea?

Green tea somewhat nowadays underwent a revolution from being serve as a tea to various range of food & beverages. Good for health, but some might not like the taste, some restaurants like to play around with it by infused it into desserts.

Enter Okonomi. A new japanese restaurant specialized in custom made sushi roll where customer can choose their ingredients & the chef will do it for them. Since i was already had some mains, my target was their dessert which was Green tea molten lava cake. The cake was similar to the infamous chocolate molten lava cake but with green tea based. Served with vanilla softie ice cream & green tea chocolate. It was quite nice for me. The green tea element was quite strong. Some might not like it though. The lava was sweet with green tea flavor.

This is one the many other dish offered by Okonomi. The idea of customized sushi roll will definitely gave me a reason to return here in the near future.

Fahrenheit 600 at Publika

Hi folks.

In my previous post on Fahrenheit 600 earlier, I've mentioned about trying their other dishes besides pizza. It took awhile for me to return back to the place because of daily schedule but i did just that recently since my mom & sis was craving for a good pizza so I decided to bring them here. The menu still remained the same from my last visit.

The menu

It didn't took us long time to decide what to order. In order to maximize our experience here, we decided to go for 1 signature pizza, 1 breakfast & 1 artisan pasta dish. We ordered Mexican pizza, New York breakfast & Ducking good.

The pizza was excellent. This place surely not saving with their ingredients as this pizza was loaded with cheese & minced beef. Topped with jalapeno, beans & corns with a hidden trap of chili padi. The tomato base sauce compliment well with all the elements. Crust was nicely thick & crunchy. A dash of tomato salsa for a mexican touch.

It's been awhile since i went for a brunch & ordered a breakfast. Here, we decided to go for something hearty. NY breakfast consisted of a slice of toast, hashbrown, mixed of white & red baked beans, chicken sausage, beef bacon, sauteed mushrooms & 2 baked eggs. Nothing to shout about this dish aside from being decent but definitely fulfilling.

Finally, Ducking good pasta. Honestly, my first duck experience wasn't a good one. So i kinda avoided eating duck from that moment until i've eaten a good duck dish months ago way before i started this blog. This pasta made of spaghetti aglio olio with mushrooms, herbs, rosemary, chili padi & duck slices. To get the maximum flavors out of this dish, do not save the duck till the end. Otherwise, the pasta will taste quite normal. Squeeze the orange slice for extra edge on the dish.

Only sandwiches section left for me to explore. Will return for them sooner or later.

Fahrenheit 600 at Solaris Publika

Happy National Pizza Day folks!

Since today is Pizza day, I would like to share my recent pizza experience. Ah, Pizza. Who doesn't love them? We all do. the best thing about pizza is that it can come in all kind of looks & taste. From savory to sweet, gourmet to instant, pizza have it all. My sis have been recommending this place to me ever since she went there for lunch. Since i was invited by my mate for a lunch, we decided to go there.

I never heard about this place even though I often went to Publika for the food. Maybe i passed by the place but didn't notice it. The entrance will welcome you with a sight of stone-oven ready for pizza baking. Besides pizza, this place offers other dish like toast, breakfast, pasta & some desserts. Since i'm a pizza-freak, i went for the pizza.

The menu

After going through the long list of pizza menu, we decided to go for their specialty, Popeye the Sailor Season 2 & The Armenian. You have the option to choose for the 9" or 12" for pizza. Since there are only 2 of us, we went for 9".

As the name depicts, Popeye was synonym with Spinach so we get spinach on top of our pizza along with caramelized onions, homemade cream sauce, olive oil, poached egg & chicken breast. It was very good. The sauce was light & not too overpowering. The crust, oh man, it was awesome. Not too thin and thick, crunchy on the outside & fluffy inside, it was good. It wasn't chewy & hard as well. Some might need some chili flakes for little more kick. To get the best out of this pizza, make sure to break the yolk.

Popeye the Sailor season 2 (RM 25.90)

How can we eat pizza without any meat? Seems like they're made for each other. Armenian is the perfect pizza to satisfy our meaty cravings. Quattro pizza with homemade light tomato base sauce topped with minced beef, diced capsicums, caramelized onions, sliced dried mushrooms & beef pepperoni. The pizza was excellent. Really satisfy our meat cravings. Crust was perfect with load of toppings.

Armenian (RM 27.90)

This is one of the place for good pizza for anyone who're looking for. I've been intrigued by next table order of their breakfast so definitely worth for next visit.

Urbano eFresco! & Whimsical Gelataria & Caffe at Publika a.k.a Solaris Dutamas

Truth be told, gathering to meet up group of old friends are never easy. Weeks of planning can just crumble apart in the last minute. So this time around, me & my former Iossb mates just gung-ho few days earlier for a simple gathering dinner. Thanks to Yusri for deciding on the venue since i never been to this restaurant before. So here we are, at Solaris Dutamas a.k.a Publika to have our gathering dinner at Urbano eFresco! then at Whimsical for dessert.

There are a lot of Italian eatery scattered around Malaysia nowadays. Each might served familiar dishes with some different dishes as well. First time when i look at the menu which looks like a newspaper, it was a bit different. Just a basic Italian menu such as salad, pasta, pizza, antipasti & beverages. No stuff like steak or chicken chops here.

An old newspaper type of menu.

Since Yus said the pizza is good here, I ordered their Piccante Pizza and Eva ordered the classic Spaghetti Carbonara.

12" Piccante Pizza with Chicken Pepperoni, diced chicken breast, jalapeno, red chili, red & green pepper & onion slices. (RM 34++)

The pizza was decent. The crust wasn't too thin & it was crunchy as well. The base sauce was nicely done with generous toppings & cheese. It wasn't too hot as well even though with the presence of jalapeno & red chili. Eat with no worry.

Pasta Carbonara with Beef Bacon slices. Sorry for the picture. Eva managed to stir it before i can snap it.

I get to taste some of the carbonara. The portion is decent. However it might be tad creamy for some. The trick is you must eat it with the beef bacon. Do not save the bacon to savor at last as the carbonara sauce relied on the saltiness of the bacon. The beef bacon slices was lightly salted so some people might be 'muak' easily. Eva did managed to finish this though.

After we're done with our dinner at Urbano, we went next door for dessert. Yus has been telling us about the infamous Nasi Lemak Ice cream. Yes folks, you read it right. An ice cream with Nasi Lemak Flavor. Brain that! Fear not, you can sample the ice cream before buying it so we get to taste the Nasi Lemak ice cream. Heck, it does taste like cold nasi lemak with the santan, bits of rice, peanut, anchovies with sambal in it but in ice cream form. My brain unable to process it though.

Ice cream selection.

More clear view on the flavor.

So none of us dared to try the nasi lemak ice cream. All of us choose the safer choice. I ordered their White Choc & four berries ice cream on top of their waffles. The ice cream was milky and creamy with hint of berries. Not too much though but it is still pleasant. The waffle was light with crunchiness and fluffiness but the inside tasted like a bread. Still good when combined with the ice cream. Kinda reminded me of the good ol' bread with ice cream.

Anyhoo, this gathering was a success. It was good to meet up once in a while plus trying good food. i dare anyone to try the nasi lemak ice cream. I chicken out.
