M.A.D at PV 128, Setapak

G'day folks.

When I first work around setapak area back in late 2012, PV 128 doesn't have many restaurants available aside from Pelita Nasi Kandar. But now, it's one of the busiest place in setapak. Students & working class people gather there to hang out; be it at mamak restaurant (2 of them now) or other place like coffee house. Parking opposite the main road might be a hassle plus people will often double parked without leaving their number. Parking at the back would be your option during peak hours.

M.A.D or Modern Asian Dining have been around for quite awhile but i never had the chance to try it. Here the food served mostly asian with some western food as well. There fusion like the sandwich as well.

The menu

There some dessert selection as well but I'm on a weight watch so i passed on the dessert, for now.

Me & my mate took quite a while to decide our order. All the dishes look tempting. Lastly, my mate ordered their Grilled Chicken Chop since it's M.A.D chef recommendation. I'm up for something different so I ordered Beef rendang sandwich. First up, grilled chicken chop. The portion was definitely satisfying. 2 cuts of chicken chop, grilled nicely with woody grilled aroma & taste. Chicken was soft & juicy. You have the option of 3 gravies. My mate went for their mushroom gravy & it was a bit bland & watery. Thicker would be better.

Grilled Chicken Chop (RM 16.50)

Mine was quite nice. Chunky beef cooked in a rendang gravy then sandwiched between 2 ciabatta bread. Well, the rendang was nice but definitely still far off from your raya kampung rendang that your grandma or mom made. It wasn't spicy as well. The coleslaw sauce somehow sweetened the rendang a bit. The beef was tender & perfectly cooked. Nice plate.

Beef Rendang Sandwich (RM 16.50)

It was definitely a promising place. Some dishes might be plainly similar with other places but some definitely worth a try. But not to the point to make you MAD! The parking will. lol

Teazer Food Truck & Pasta la Pasta at Setapak

Hello Folks.

It seems like currently I'm in a mood for food truck. Just recently I ate at food truck. lol. Must be because of the trend hurricane. So anyway, just nearby my office, I discovered a food truck operating for folks in setapak mostly students. I didn't managed to try it since the operating hours is between 7 pm - 12 am as I often went back home around 5 pm. But the chance soon show up as I've got a badminton session with my office mates. After badminton session, I went there for dinner. To my surprise, there are 2 food trucks operating side by side. The one I've been looking forward to try is Teazer Food Truck & another one is Pasta la Pasta.

Teazer Food Truck offers western food like Grilled Chicken & Burger while Pasta la Pasta as the name depicts, offers pasta at the same price range as Little Fat Duck. First I went to Teazer. After browsing the menu, I decided to go for their Grilled Chicken.

Teazer's menu

Chicken Grill Set comprises of 200 grams of chicken breast, coleslaw & mashed potatoes then topped with homemade brown sauce. The chicken was perfectly grill but the gravy was a bit salty but still very pleasant. The coleslaw reminded me of KFC's. But for RM 10, it was quite affordable.

Chicken Grill Set (RM 10)

Just a few meters away, Pasta la Pasta available for pasta lovers. The truck similar to those cendol/popia/laksa truck clad in white. Since I already ordered grilled chicken, I decided to go for the basic which was Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Beef. They also have non pasta option like omelette & nuggets.

Pasta la Pasta's menu

Spaghetti Aglio Olio is one of the simplest pasta dishes available but not many places can execute it perfectly. Pasta la Pasta aglio olio was pleasant with healthy garlic presence inside with chili flakes & minced meat however a bit salty but still good. For RM 5, i'm not complaining. lol.

So folks nearby Setapak have other option besides usual mamak & other restaurant. There is another food truck nearby called Barbarittos. That will be next.

RSMY at Danau Kota

Hi Foody folks.

After my first test of Naan Cheese Leleh at Restoran Ulam Desa, I've been looking for a return. However my officemates introduced RSMY to me recently which located in Danau Kota just 5 minutes drive from my office. After they showed me the pictures of the naan, i already pasang angan-angan to go to that place on one fine day & that one fine day came just days after that.

The place wasn't hard to find. Located just next to PV128 & behind Columbia hospital. However the parking might be a hassle to find. The restaurant just look like your normal mamak restaurant with a tempayan for naan & tandoori greet you on your way inside. Here they served mostly your usual indian food like naan, paratha, nasi beriani & capati. There are also local favorites like Laksa. LOL. But the main attraction is the cheese naan.

The menu

There are 3 types of cheese naan for order; Cheese Naan, Garlic Cheese Naan & Yummy Cheese Naan. Here, they don't serve the naan with dhaal gravy like normal mamak place but you have to order separately. We decided to order Yummy Cheese naan with Beef Keema. The naan best to eat while hot. It wasn't the largest probably just a bit bigger than personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. The naan used mozarella cheese instead your normal cheesdale cheddar cheese to obtain the ooey gooey cheese. Plus slices of salami inside, it was very nice. Naan was soft with gooey cheese. The cheese saltiness goes well with the salami. Certainly more ooey gooey than the one in Ulam Desa.

Yummy Cheese Naan (RM 8.00)

Salami inside.

We malaysian may never get used to eat with gravy. It feels kinda incomplete without it. The beef keema was quite good & hot as well. Not too spicy. Keema made of minced beef with spices & the gravy texture was paste like. It was decent. Goes well with the naan.

Beef Keema (RM 10)

Price here might be a bit expensive from normal Mamak place probably because of the cheese. Once in a while for a change, why not. The tag for the restaurant is 'Best Cheese Naan'. Well, might not be the best but certainly good.

Restoran Raso Omak-Den at PV 128, Setapak

Hiya folks.

Fyi folks, sometimes my friend thought me of a none rice eater as i rarely share some of my local delicacies experience. What to do, it's because my mom's home cooked food is the best ever local food i ever had. But that didn't stop me from trying out some of the places serving local dish especially during lunch hour on working days.

One of our favorite place to have a lunch is Raso Omak Den in Negeri Sembilan dialect. They served some of the famous local dishes including traditional Negeri Sembilan dishes like masak lemak cili api. There are lots of dishes during lunch hour and expect a crowd of hungry office workers during that time. They also offers Ikan bakar for those who crave for some.

The dishes

Ikan bakar menu

If you're on a budget plan, you can refer to the menu for price list. For this kind of place, they have quite a decent price.

The dishes' menu

Whenever i ate at this place, my favorite dish will be Daging masak lemak cili api & paru goreng rempah. It was very delicious. Paru was fried this crisp & the beef was very soft & succulent with the gravy not too thick & not too runny. The gravy packed a bit of heat from the chilis but not too much. They even served Telur itik masak lemak cili api. Cool!

Close up on my favorite dish

As for desserts, they have super fresh kuih koci, apam gula melaka & bubur kacang hitam. The kuih koci was one of the best i ever ate. Soft kuih koci with a dash of salty santan & a sweet coconut filling with gula melaka.

Desserts

Kuih Koci & Apam

Overall it was pleasant experience. Plenty of choices plus a really good food. Apparently this is their branch but the main branch served much more choices.
