TJ Haus at SS18

Greetings folks.

Opposite of the ever crowded SS15, lies a less famous shop lots of SS18. Unlike the expanding SS15, SS18 is a finished article. No more new buildings which much more neighborhood friendly. Here, there is a small restaurant that have been operated since i was in my college days called TJ Haus. Founded and operated by 2 best friends, Thomas & Jeffrey, they serves compilation of signature European cuisine. Thomas is the head chef, hailed from Germany while Jeffrey is our local lad. Most of the menu are signature dish from european countries like Paella, pasta carbonara, Irish stew, Fish & chips & Goulash. Even their interior is based on european touch to give customer the right ambiance.

They have fix menu but once in awhile, new additions will pop up as well. Dishes comprises of italian, british, spanish, eastern europe makes up the menu. So expect no burgers here. Surprisingly, no pizza on menu.

The menu

Me & my mom can be described as frequent visitor of this restaurant. Both Thomas & Jeffrey aside from done a good job as chef & co-owner, they also very friendly and would spend some time with us chatting as well with other customers. We had their Barramundi, pumpkin soup & Australian T-bone steak. According to my mom, their pumpkin soup is the best she ever had & i agree with her. Creamy pumpkin soup spiced with herbs, this soup was rich in flavors. Sweet with a bit of heat.

One of our favorite dish is Barramundi. Grilled fillet of deboned Barramundi with olive pesto coulis, rosemary roasted diced potatoes & vegetables. The fish grilled perfectly, combined well with pesto coulis, gave extra flavor to the dish. The potatoes was to die for. Soft & sweetly roasted.

I thought i try something new so i ordered their Australian T-bone steak. A 500 gram of steak, seasoned & grilled then served with black pepper sauce & roasted potatoes. I asked for medium-well but they've cooked it well done. Meat a bit short than tender but still chew-able. What they lacked in doner, they made up with great flavors with the steak was infused with woody flavor & well seasoned. The sauce was very rich in flavors enhanced the dish flavor.

If you're tired of typical american food, head to TJ haus for more different western food. Pricewise, here is quite affordable. While indulged in european cuisine, be sure to have a friendly chat with Thomas & Jeffrey if they are around.
