Upstairs Cafe at SS14

Hey folks.

Last time i was excited to go to SS14 because of Shakey's Pizza was there years ago. But now, they were replaced by Domino's Pizza so i rarely went to that area unless i have a hospital appointment. Recently, i've received a tip from my officemate & my sister there is an exciting cafe in the very same shop lot at SS14. Similar to SS15, parking is a hassle to find here.

The cafe was named after their location, Upstairs Cafe. Not really a fancy name but can't say the same about the food though. The theme similar to most new cafe nowadays with coffee & cakes are the main attraction. They served food like pasta, sandwiches, pastries & newly introduced mains like ribs & steaks. Price wise, not really upscale. Still able to get ribs shy under RM 30.

This is one of my mom & sister favorite place to dine. I can see that now as during dinner peak hours all tables will be occupied mostly by young parents & early 20s customers. That should say something about the food. For a start we had their Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge Cake. It was a truly awesome cake. Chocolate cake surprisingly not that fudgy but still soft & moist layered with mix of peanut butter & cream cheese which gave you the creamy saltiness feel. A must try if available.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge Cake

My mom as usual will go for something light for dinner so she had Beef Stragonoff Pie. Chunky beef stew in a bowl with pastry crust on top. The stew was rich with brown sauce & the meat was soft & tender.

Beef Stragonoff Pie

As I'm quite famish from my basketball game earlier, i had their recommended mains, Chicken Ala Mont. Almost similar to Chicken Cordon Bleu but with more stuffing like mushrooms, gravy & cheese. Served with house fried and salad. The flavors was more to mushroom sauce (it was load of them) & chicken was perfectly cooked. Try to avoid mixing the dish with the salad as the dressing will overpower the dish flavor.

When you combine 2 big factors in your restaurants; affordable & good food, surely a lot of people will be attracted to your place & this place just found that combination.

Cowboys Food Truck & Thyme Out (Revisit) at SS15

What's up, folks.

It's been awhile since i last ate anything from Cowboys Food Truck until recently they introduced a new dish on their menu. For my previous visit to Cowboys Food Truck, you can click herehere, and here. To keep track on their movement, be sure to follow them on their instagram. The dish they just introduced recently was Cowboys BBQ cheeseburger. Customer can choose patty of their choice, 120 grams of homemade beef patty or chicken chop. Other dishes remain the same.

Upgraded menu

Their burger was quite simple. Sesame bun, 120 grams australian beef patty, bbq sauce, cheese, chipotle mayo & shredded lettuce & cabbage. Accompanied by corn chips with cheese sauce. The cheeseburger is quite good. The patty surprisingly soft & less dense than other place. Some people might not like it though but i'm quite fond of it. This cheeseburger powered by the homemade BBQ sauce & chipotle mayo. The patty seasoned well & combined well with other flavors.

Cowboys BBQ Cheeseburger

Just a few walks away from Cowboys Food Truck, you will find Thyme Out food truck. Once in awhile, they also will have a new menu pop up but mostly seasonal. For my previous visit, click here. You can track them via their instagram. Currently they have BBQ chicken for offer. Tacos has always been my favorite so after the recommendation from the staff, I ordered BBQ chicken tacos. While i still favor lamb tacos over the new BBQ chicken tacos, it was still good. Succulent grilled chicken pieces with sweet & spicy bbq sauce, it was really good. Served on a bed of salad compilation & warm soft tortilla.

Be sure to follow them so that you won't miss out on them. They are available for catering as well. Imagine, your kenduri serving tacos, burgers, yummeh!

Double A Cafe at Ara Damansara

Hiya folks.

Remember about my post on that brownies by Gula Cakery? and that cakes by Cake Jalan Tiung? If you haven't tasted the cakes from them, fear not as there is a new cafe opened at Pacific Place, Ara Damansara that bring desserts from aforementioned to you called Double A. My officemate, who is a big fan of dessert as well as brownie by Gula Cakery recommended this place. Before this, Double A only serve desserts but now, they started serving hot food from their kitchen so that was enough reason for us to go there for a visit.

Their interior approach was simple & modern. Not too much fiddling except for some frame of arts on the wall.

We went at night so not many desserts left but there are some cakes from Cake Tiung available.

Desserts counter

Not much on the menu. Probably still on the introduction stage. They have normal cafe offerings like pasta & sandwich.

The menu

We ordered their signature Double A trouble fries, Grilled pesto chicken sandwich & Spaghetti Aglio E Olio with pan fried Salmon. Their Double A trouble fries didn't disappoint. Recommended for sharing. Grilled fries with diced tomatoes salsa, jalapenos, crispy beef bacon & cheese sauce.

Double A Trouble Fries

I personally fancy their Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich. The bread was toasted nicely until crispy. Succulent chicken slices with plenty of homemade & flavorful pesto sauce with melted cheese. Served with chips & salad.

Grilled pesto chicken sandwich.

Their Spaghetti Aglio E Olio with Pan fried salmon was off the menu. So i'm not sure until when they going to serve this dish on the menu. The portion was quite satisfying for average eater. Aglio Olio was ok to me with a bit of heat. Salmon was fried nicely with crispy skin. Not too strong on their garlic though.

TJ Haus at SS18

Greetings folks.

Opposite of the ever crowded SS15, lies a less famous shop lots of SS18. Unlike the expanding SS15, SS18 is a finished article. No more new buildings which much more neighborhood friendly. Here, there is a small restaurant that have been operated since i was in my college days called TJ Haus. Founded and operated by 2 best friends, Thomas & Jeffrey, they serves compilation of signature European cuisine. Thomas is the head chef, hailed from Germany while Jeffrey is our local lad. Most of the menu are signature dish from european countries like Paella, pasta carbonara, Irish stew, Fish & chips & Goulash. Even their interior is based on european touch to give customer the right ambiance.

They have fix menu but once in awhile, new additions will pop up as well. Dishes comprises of italian, british, spanish, eastern europe makes up the menu. So expect no burgers here. Surprisingly, no pizza on menu.

The menu

Me & my mom can be described as frequent visitor of this restaurant. Both Thomas & Jeffrey aside from done a good job as chef & co-owner, they also very friendly and would spend some time with us chatting as well with other customers. We had their Barramundi, pumpkin soup & Australian T-bone steak. According to my mom, their pumpkin soup is the best she ever had & i agree with her. Creamy pumpkin soup spiced with herbs, this soup was rich in flavors. Sweet with a bit of heat.

Cream of pumpkin soup

One of our favorite dish is Barramundi. Grilled fillet of deboned Barramundi with olive pesto coulis, rosemary roasted diced potatoes & vegetables. The fish grilled perfectly, combined well with pesto coulis, gave extra flavor to the dish. The potatoes was to die for. Soft & sweetly roasted.

Barramundi

I thought i try something new so i ordered their Australian T-bone steak. A 500 gram of steak, seasoned & grilled then served with black pepper sauce & roasted potatoes. I asked for medium-well but they've cooked it well done. Meat a bit short than tender but still chew-able. What they lacked in doner, they made up with great flavors with the steak was infused with woody flavor & well seasoned. The sauce was very rich in flavors enhanced the dish flavor.

If you're tired of typical american food, head to TJ haus for more different western food. Pricewise, here is quite affordable. While indulged in european cuisine, be sure to have a friendly chat with Thomas & Jeffrey if they are around.

Goodsaltz at The Curve

Hello folks.

Recently me & my mate had a movie marathon at The Curve & we had our dinner at a place called Goodsaltz. I've noticed this restaurant since early this year but the thoughts of trying it haven't really crossed my mind. That thought soon change after my brother had a dinner there & he said the food was quite good. Hence, goodsaltz immediately on my list to try.

The menu offering at goodsaltz looks interesting indeed combining classic western with some asian & fusion as well. There are desserts as well but for this visit, we didn't order any desserts.

The menu

The interior design look interesting as well. Must be the current trend design as there are other cafes had similar design as well.

The interior

As for the food, we had their chef recommendation Masala Fried Spaghetti & Mommy's Fish & Chip. My thought at first the spaghetti would be similar to Mee Goreng Mamak but turned out it wasn't. Blessed with plenty of minced chicken, sliced big red chillies, small sliced green chillies, curry leaves & masala spices, it was really nice, and spicy too. Topped with black sesame seeds & slices of cherry tomatoes that added the sweetness. The flavors combined well for this dish. Better than mee goreng mamak.

Masala Fried Spaghetti

Mommy's Fish & Chip was decent. A large cut of deep fried fish fillet with salad & chips. The tartar sauce was a bit sweet & wasn't strong to add the edge to this dish. A squeeze of lemon juice would greatly add the extra edge to complete this dish. The fish was well prepared but the breaded a bit bland which at first glance looked a bit oily but after you started eating, it wasn't.

Mommy's Fish & Chip

The initial experience gave me a good impression about this place. The fusion looks quite interesting as well. The chefs does a good job preparing the foods.

Grella's at SS19

Hi Folks.

Grella's was introduced to me via Facebook advertisement (with the assistance of like from friends) since early last year but still haven't had the chance to pay a visit until recently. It was located at SS19, more relaxed than the packed SS15 nearby so parking won't be a hassle.

Here in Grella's, they serve grilled western food like Chicken chop, lamb chop & burgers. No fancy ones though, most dishes are back to basic except for the burgers. The portion size here would bring joy to big eaters out there with fairly affordable price. We had Grilled Lamb Burger & Giant Crispy Fish Burger.

The menu

The interior

The lamb burger was totally different from what i had anticipated. Instead of lamb patty, The burger used chopped grilled lamb. Kinda more like a sandwich than burger. The lamb was nicely grilled & tender. Drenched with black pepper sauce. The burger however had too many mayonnaise that it almost took away the lamb taste.

Grilled Lamb Burger

My mom & sis shared the Giant Crispy Fish Burger. Yes, it was really huge. The fish fillet was crispy but most flavors came from the coleslaw & mayonnaise. Pricewise, this will filled your day.
